Frequently Asked Questions

What does “i3” stand for?

I3 Planters is a Patent Pending design that means “integrating illumination & irrigation”, and repre-sents combining a safe, Low Voltage (12 volts) Landscape Light Fixture with a Planter that has automatic watering capability.

Can I hook-up the Planter myself? If so, what do I need?

Yes. Since we only use safe, Low Voltage (12 volts), Landscape Light fixtures, lamps, connectors, wire and typical drip irrigation fittings and materials, you will normally only need a few hand tools (screw-driver, wire cutter, drill & bits). Complete instructions are included with each i3 Planter Hanger, Garden Hose Hook-Up Kit and Soffit & Post Hugger Kit, or go to our website and click on the “How To Instruc-tions” Tab to download the PDF file you want.

Can I leave it outside year-round?

Absolutely! We apply an exterior rated Powder Coating to our Cast Aluminum Bell Housing combined with all Brass and Stainless Steel components on the Light Fixture Hanger. That’s why we place a Ten Year Warranty on the Light Fixture Hanger.

Do I need an automatic sprinkler system to automate watering the Planters?

No. But if you do have one, you only need the sprinkler head adapter, (included with each i3 Planter) to easily hook-up the Automatic Watering feature. Generally speaking, you can water three to five i3 Planters from one sprinkler head adapter. If you don’t have an automatic watering system, no problem, you can still automatically water your i3 Planters by using a simple garden hose, an i3 Planters Hose Hook-Up Kit and a Battery Operated Hose Timer. With the garden hose and timer system you can water four to six i3 Planters.

If I want to drip irrigate my other container plantings could I tap-off additional lines from the same sys-tem?

Yes. Fairly easily too. But you will need to make sure the water supply line from either the sprinkler head system or the water hose system can deliver enough water pressure up to your hanging baskets before you redirect some of the water to other planters. We recommend you visit one of these two websites or contact a local lawn sprinkling contractor for more information regarding how to set-up a drip irrigation system that is best suited for your home. (www.orbitonline.com) or (www.raindrip.com)

I have hanging basket locations in both sun and shade... how can I control amount and frequency of watering?

The amount of water given to each i3 Planter can be set at 0 gals. up to 10 gals. per hour by adjusting the stake emitter located at the basket end of the hanger. The frequency of watering is controlled by the Automatic Sprinkling System Zone Controller or the Battery Operated Hose Timer. Both systems will typically give you a lot of watering flexibility, and with the adjustable stake emitter you’ll be able to accommodate a huge variety of plant and flower watering schedules.

Can I use it indoors as well as outdoors?

Yes. But you need to make sure your Low Voltage Transformer is rated for both Indoor and outdoor use.

Where can I buy them?

Visit our website and click on the “ Where To Buy “ tab to view Authorized Dealers and Contractors. If there isn’t one close in your area you can shop online from us.

Can I use silk flowers and only the light feature at other times of the year?

Yes. It’s another feature of i3 Planters that makes them unique and useful Year Round. When your growing season is over, remove your spent flowers, old potting soil, and shut off your watering system. With each season change you can insert a beautiful silk arrangement, (Red Poinsettias and Large Bows are stunning during the Christmas Season)

What is your warranty?

We have a 10 Year Limited Warranty on every i3 Planter Hanger Fixture. Our Limited Warranty on our Resin Wicker Basket and Aqua-Air 3 Liner is 3 Years. Please visit our website and click on the “Warranty” tab for complete details.

What makes the Aqua-Air™ 3 liner different?

First, It’s a patented manufacturing process that wafers a thin layer of PVC material inside two outer layers of Coir Fiber. The thin layer stores up to a half gallon of water in the bottom third of the liner, but if you over-water the excess simply flows out the sides above the inner layer. Next, we use more natural coir fiber and latex rubber than any standard fiber liner on the market. Which means you don’t have to replace your liner every year and we issue a 3 Year Limited Warranty to prove it. The Aqua-Air 3 Liner saves water and money with fewer liner replacements.

Do I need to use Soffit & Post Hugger™ Channel Kit?

No. Depending on where and how you hang your i3 Planters you may not need to cover the ¼” water supply tubing or low voltage supply cable. However, if a way of hiding the supply lines isn’t obvious then the Soffit & Post Hugger Channel Kit is a very easy, simple, and effective way to have a professionally finished look when your done. You can attach it to many different structures and locations, depending on where you hang your i3 Planters you can use small stainless steel screws or exterior caulks for easy mounting. (We use OSI, Pro-Series Quad Caulk available at most Home Centers or Lumber Yards)

In addition to our house overhang, where else could we hang our i3 Planters?

A home’s overhang or soffit area is by far the most common location for a hanging basket. But there is no rule that limits you from hanging your i3 Planters from other structures, i.e. Gazebos, Pergolas, Fences, Decks, Docks, Posts, Poles, Pool House, Screen House, etc. The most important thing to re-member is whatever you attach the hook or support bracket into needs to be secure and strong enough to support at least 50 lbs. of weight.

What if I don’t want to hook it up myself, who do I call?

No problem. Generally, any Low Voltage Lighting, Irrigation or Landscape Contractor would be happy to give you a quote for hook-up. Check our website for a Contractor in your area, but if you can’t find one, please contact us by phone or e-mail and we’ll help you.

What about other types of i3 Planters?

We will be offering new designs, shapes and styles in the near future, so check back here often for new features.
